Registration is now required to comment at this ain’t livin’.
I don’t really want to get into the specifics of why this is, at this particular moment, but suffice it to say that this is a decision which I have been mulling over for a very long time, and, at this point, I need to do it or I will not be able to keep writing here.
I apologize. I know that registration barriers are a pain in the behind. I know I’m not the only one who has a long list of “comments I never left because I didn’t want to have to register to do it.”
I know that many of my readers never comment anyway, so this probably won’t make much of a difference for many of you. Those who do comment, I hope that you will take the time to register at this ain’t livin’. I’m not going to lie and say “it only takes a minute, it’s no big deal,” because, well, it may take a little longer than a minute on your connection, and I know that it is a big deal. I can also create a user account for you, if you would prefer that; just email me with your preferred username (meloukhia at gmail dot com) and I will set it up for you and send you a temporary password.
Please also email me if you encounter any problems with the registration process, since I just enacted it and there may be some bugs. Also, please note that any information you enter while registering is private and will not be shared with anyone (except your username or nickname, which will display when you comment, and your website, which will also be displayed when you comment).
You will be able to log in in the sidebar; when you log in, the site will keep you on whatever page you are on, so you won’t have to bounce around all over the place just to log in and leave a darn comment. You can also tell the site to remember you from visit to visit so that you don’t need to log in again every time.
Again, I apologize for this. I really didn’t want to do it, but I had to. And if you feel like you can no longer comment here because of the registration barrier, I respect that, although I hope that you can keep reading.
Perhaps someday I can go back to open comments again; I would really like to be able to.
ETA: There will always be a link to register in the sidebar! So don’t feel like you have to register right this very minute or the world will end. (Although it is heartening to see people registering!)
