Being a big fan of birth control and healthy women, I wanted to make you aware of the following:
The incredibly popular (for reasons unknown to me) Ortho Evra birth control patch comes with some stiffer warning language now. According to the manufacturer, the patch exposes women to higher levels of estrogen than conventional birth control pills (if you want low dose chemical birth control, ladies, please consider NuvaRing). The elevated level of estrogen can increase your risk of birth control associated side effects, including blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks, especially if you smoke (and if you do, please stop).
If you are choosing a chemical route for your family planning needs, I strongly recommend a low dose version, because I think it has less impact on your body (well, obviously it would). If you are currently using the patch and experiencing adverse side effects, you may want to talk to your doctor about an alternate method.
Please remember that chemical birth control does not protect against STDs.
