First, I have a request for readers, on behalf of another reader. Does anyone know of good Internet resources for ED recovery/support? Something more community based would be good, as opposed to a purely informational site. You can leave links in the comments or email them to me (meloukhia at gmail dot com).
On to the news of note. Sorry today’s post is so long, but there’s lots of good stuff, I promise!
A woman who wants to be a nun is trying to raise money to pay off her student loans, since you can’t take vows with debts. The rise in student loan debt/consumer debt is being cited as one reason why fewer men and women are becoming monks and nuns.
Terrific article on tax myths up at Contexts.

Do “ex-gays” really exist?
A self described “chubby Puerto Rican woman” has some thoughts on diversity and Dollhouse.
This sucks: Caster Semenya just pulled out of a meet in South Africa. Official reason: not feeling well. Real reason: she’s totally traumatized.
Just when I think Unilever couldn’t possibly get any more evil, they launch a truly vile ad campaign for Klondike bars. Complain here.
Why aren’t law enforcement better trained when it comes to dealing with people with mental illness?
The foster care system in this country is a total and complete mess. So, uhm, what are we going to do about it?
There is a superb discussion up on recursiveparadox talking about how to be an ally.
Gee, who would have thunk that people are judged by their first names? As someone forced to go by my initials rather than my legal name in order to be treated with respect, I can assure parents that choosing a name is not to be done lightly. (Tip: don’t try to be original. Seriously.)
Being a fat bride is not the end of the world. Unless, of course, you go an insanely restricted diet to lose weight before your wedding and your diet kills you.
