Political Entries
Sunday, July 5th, 2009You didn’t think I would forget the hippies in the 2009 Mendocino Fourth of July Parade, did you?

As it turns out, it's actually a float about health care. Hard to see, but the people in the bed are wearing labels like "Congress" and "Big Pharma"

The protest effect is somewhat diminished by the fact that these two jumpsuited people look so happy

An Anti-Obama entry. Liberty in chains, held by the President, accompanied by an executive and a woman screaming "Obama lies." I was astounded, but also heartened, to see an anti-Obama float: it's good to see people criticizing the administration (though it would have been nice to include more substantive criticisms).

These people aren't hippies, but I wasn't really sure where to stick them. This parade entry really upset and offended me, and I think it riled up a lot of other people as well. The person in blackface was offensive because...well...I mean, yeah. The person crossdressing as a representative of what a transgendered person looks like pisses me off. A lot. I would call this a major parade fail, and I'm still upset about it. Shame on these people.
Didn’t get enough parade photos for your taste? There are even more on my Flickr.
