Stoic Croutons

Quantum of Solace is starting to attract some media attention, since, you know. New Bond film. Exciting! I wonder when the Bond franchise will finally die; it was definitely starting to flag for awhile there, but Casino Royale was pretty dang awesome.

Snitches and the anti-snitching movement may be subjects of mockery and witty tee-shirts, but it’s a serious issue.

Abalone? Coming back? Could it be?

Marijuana potency is a favourite pet issue of the federales, but evidence suggests that, duh, more potent marijuana isn’t actually more dangerous. (In fact, it might even be better, since people need to consume less for the same high.)

The gallon jug for milk has undergone a facelift. Predictably, people hate it.

Patient errors at some of California’s most prestigious hospitals got a lot of press from the Los Angeles Times, but personally I think 100 Californians a month out of the huge numbers that go to hospital is a pretty low error rate. Yes, it sucks to be a statistic, but…statistics happen.

The American Academy of Pediatrics is fighting back against idiots who don’t vaccinate their children. Boo-ya! (The comments on this article are priceless. As is the article itself, honestly.)

Always happy to oblige. I know there’s at least one rant on anti-vaccine “activists” lurking in the archives somewhere which clarifies my position even further (and less succinctly), but I’m too lazy to look it up right now.

Okay — thanks for the clarification.

I do indeed think the issue is that cut and dried. Parents should vaccinate their children. Period. I have read numerous studies on both sides of the vaccine argument, and the potential risks of vaccines are far outweighed by the risk of potentially dying of a fully preventable disease, and putting other people in the community at risk of said disease. Vaccine-o-phobes should indeed be penalized for their antisocial and irresponsible behavior.

On the vaccine article — do you really think the issue is that cut-and-dried or did I not correctly follow the trajectory of the snark in your comment?

Obviously, we citizens would like to believe that snitches would help clean up crime and make our lives better. My personal experience, borne out by that of others, is that snitches are then protected by the police and use that protection to make everyone else less safe. A snitch is the reason I slept with a loaded shotgun under my bed for six months. Not that I had done anything criminal but I had refused to fold to extortion. The sheriff was the one who advised the shotgun. He told me that he couldn’t touch the guy because the DEA was protecting him.

Now that was fun. God! It's been so long since I had a decent spot of violence. Really puts things in perspective.
