It’s Friday the 13th and a full moon.
What could possibly go wrong?
As anybody who works in the service industry, customers really do seem to go somewhat wonky during the full moon. I generally dismiss astrology crap because I find most of it patently untrue. (Example–at the staff meeting this week, someone said the reason I was so perfectly suited to my job was because of my “Virgo tendancies.” Which is all well and good, I suppose, and could even be true…if I was a Virgo.) But there’s something about the full moon–it affects the tides, and it sure as hell affects us, I tell you what.
When I left work last night the book was looking fairly full for today, which is great on a number of levels, but I hope everything goes smoothly today, because I really really don’t want today to turn into “my first customer heart attack” or something unpleasant like that.
Perhaps the 13 thing isn’t as important as the Friday thing. Friday and the full moon is a pretty strong combination. For those of us in the world that still have “normal” workweeks, Friday is the cue to cut loose and go wild. Friday is the day to get your weekend started. It seems as though a lot of social conventions and norms tend to get shoved to the side on Fridays. (When is “casual dress” day in your office?) It seems more likely to me that the influence of Friday-itis and the full moon might lead people to do bizarre things.
I know there’s a long running myth that full moons in the emergency room tend to be more hectic. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
